Aluminium Scrap Prices Birmingham

If you’re looking to sell aluminium scrap in Birmingham, West Midlands Metals offers competitive daily prices for all grades, paid the same day by bank transfer. We buy aluminium from plumbers, builders, electricians, roofing contractors, shopfitters, engineering firms and private individuals — and we update our prices every day in line with the London Metal Exchange. We accept aluminium at our yard at 11-12 The Arches, Lawden Road, Birmingham, B10 0AB, Monday to Friday 8am–5pm and Saturday 8am–12pm. No appointment needed for drop-offs. For larger commercial quantities, our free collection service can come to your site.

Aluminium Grades We Buy

We buy all common grades of aluminium scrap. Prices vary by grade — here’s what to expect for each:

H9 Aluminium Section

H9 is one of the most common grades we see. It covers clean, uncoated aluminium extrusion including window frames, door frames, curtain walling, shopfront sections and standard extruded profiles. To achieve the H9 rate your aluminium should be free from steel fixings, rubber seals, paint (in most cases) and other non-aluminium materials. If it arrives with mixed attachments we’ll grade it accordingly.

Aluminium Cutts

Aluminium cutts covers off-cuts, short lengths, swarf and mixed aluminium pieces that don’t fall cleanly into the H9 category. Common sources include engineering offcuts, fabrication waste and mixed window frame cutoffs. Still a good price for material that would otherwise go to landfill.

Old Rolled Aluminium

Old rolled aluminium covers sheet aluminium, roofing sheet, corrugated aluminium cladding and similar flat or rolled product that may be painted, weathered or oxidised. The lower rate reflects the additional processing required. If your material is clean and unpainted, let us know at the yard and we’ll assess whether it grades higher.

Alloy Wheels

We buy alloy wheels. Weight varies considerably by size — a standard 17-inch alloy wheel typically weighs around 8–10kg, so a set of four will usually fetch between £40–£50 at current rates. Wheels should be free of tyres where possible, though we can accept them with tyres — tyre disposal charges may apply. We buy from mechanics, body shops, car traders, breakers and private sellers.

What Affects the Price You’ll Receive?

The price you’re quoted at the yard depends on the grade and condition of your material. The published rates are for clean, uncontaminated aluminium of the specific type described. Mixed or contaminated loads will be graded at the appropriate lower rate. If you’re unsure how your material will be graded, bring it in and we’ll assess it on the scales — there’s no obligation and we’ll always explain how we’ve graded it before you agree to sell. For large quantities — particularly engineering firms, window fabricators or roofing contractors with regular output — get in touch to discuss contracted rates. We can often improve on the published price for regular, clean, well-sorted loads.

How Payment Works

We pay by same-day BACS transfer. Once your aluminium has been weighed and graded, we agree the total and transfer it to your bank account the same business day. No cash is paid on-site in compliance with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. New customers need to register with us — bring a photo driving licence and your bank sort code and account number on your first visit, or pre-register online to speed up your first weigh-in.

Can You Collect Aluminium From My Site?

Yes. Our trades collection service covers Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, including Solihull, Walsall, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and surrounding areas. We’ll deliver a free wheelie bin to your site, collect when it’s full, weigh on-site with calibrated digital scales, agree the price before we leave, and pay by bank transfer the same evening between 4–6pm. This is particularly popular with roofing contractors and window installers who generate regular volumes of aluminium section and sheet — it removes the need to make separate yard runs and ensures you’re always paid the daily rate without any hassle.
